A railway designed for use by workers on their daily commute; mostly transports workers from homes in the suburbs and exurbs to jobs concentrated in and around the central business district near the center of a major city, but often also used by reverse commuters with homes in the city and jobs elsewhere, or by people on non-work day trips.
