An N-methylated indoleamine derivative, a serotonergic hallucinogen found in several plants, especially Prestonia amazonica (Apocynaceae) and in mammalian brain, blood, and urine. Not to be confused with 5-MeO-DMT (5-methoxy-dimethyltryptamine).
