The word "jojo" was reportedly coined at a Chicago trade show in the early 1960s by an employee of the Flavor-Crisp pressure fryer company. It originally referred to fried potatoes that customers began eating and enjoying after being used to clean grease between cooking demonstrations for chicken and fish.
