A form of error arising from mishearing a spoken or sung phrase.
The word "mondegreen" was coined in 1954 by Sylvia Wright after she misheard a line from a Scottish ballad. She mistakenly heard "And Lady Mondegreen" instead of the original phrase "And laid him on the green."
