An open bitstream container file format for audio, video, and other multimedia content.
"The developer converted the high-quality recording into an ogg file to ensure efficient streaming without licensing fees."
The word "ogg" comes from jargon in the computer game Netrek, where it originally meant to commit all resources to an attack regardless of negative consequences for the rest of the game. It was adopted as a short name for the OggSquish audio format after Michael Whitsun suggested replacing the trademarked original name Squish with this gaming term in 1993.
