An ancient city, capital of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia.
The word pella comes from the Ancient Greek πέλλα (pélla), meaning "stone." It ultimately traces back to a Proto-Indo-European root *pels- that also gave rise to words for rock and mountain in many other languages.
