In Greek mythology, the oldest Oceanid, a daughter of Tethys and Oceanus
"The ancient poet often invoked Rhode, the primordial Oceanid who was born to Tethys and Oceanus."
The word rhode comes from the Old English words rod or hrēod, which originally meant a bundle of sticks used as fuel. Its modern spelling changed in the 16th century to resemble the name of Rhodes, Greece, even though the two are unrelated.
