Geography Words

Geography has a word for every kind of landform, and English borrowed most of them from other languages. "Fjord" is Norwegian, "steppe" is Russian, "mesa" is Spanish, "savanna" comes from Taino. Learning these words is partly about vocabulary and partly about understanding how different cultures named the landscapes they lived in.
