Architecture Words

Architectural vocabulary has deep roots in Greek, Latin, and French. A "cupola" is not the same as a "dome," and a "buttress" does something structural that a "pillar" doesn't. You encounter these words in cities, in museums, in old churches — anywhere people built something meant to last. This list covers the language of buildings from foundation to spire.
