Quintus Horatius Flaccus, a poet and philosopher of the Roman Augustan Age. Born 65 B.C.E. in Venusia, died 27 November, 8 B.C.E. in Rome. Horace was a contemporary and friend of Virgil. Although of low birth, Horace was admired by the Emperor Augustus and was offered, but refused, to become his private secretary.
